2024 St. Augustine Orchestra
Young Artists Competition

The St. Augustine Orchestra is happy to announce the SAO 2024 Concerto Competition for Young Musicians. This annual event is designed to support music education in Florida by giving talented students a chance to perform a solo piece with a symphony orchestra.

 

The winner will be selected through a competitive audition process and will have the opportunity to perform with the St. Augustine Orchestra on March 13, 2025, at the Tocoi Creek High School Performing Arts Center.

 

The winner will also receive a cash prize of $1,500.00.

This year’s competition is open to string, woodwind, brass, percussion, and harp musicians enrolled in a Florida high school or college/university and be between the ages of 14 and 21 on March 13, 2025.  Please note that pianists are not eligible for this competition at this time.

Application Guidelines

​1. APPLICATION FORM.  Applications are due by November 15, 2024.

​

​2. AUDITION VIDEO: Applicants must provide an unedited video recording with piano accompaniment of the first or last movement of a work for their instrument, or a complete work of about 8-12 minutes. Repertoire selected by the applicant must exist as a published orchestral arrangement available for sale (not for rent). Consult the attached approved repertoire list provided for suggestions. Applicants may also post a video recording on YouTube or provide a download link from cloud storage. Send the link (or any questions) to Maestro Scott Gregg at saocompetition@gmail.com.  The suitability and availability of performance materials must be approved by the conductor prior to the acceptance of the application. Contact Maestro Gregg well in advance of the deadline if in doubt.

 

3. APPLICATION FEE of $25.00.  Click below.  This fee is non-refundable.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Application, video, and application fee must all be received by November 15, 2024.  

 

  • Applicants will be notified by November 24, 2024 regarding their selection as a finalist in the live audition.

 

  • A live Final Round will be held before a selection committee in St. Augustine, FL on Saturday, December 7, 2024.Finalists are required to provide their own accompanist for the audition. Finalists are encouraged, but not required, to perform from memory. Finalists must provide an accompanist and bring FOUR copies of the music for the judges (finalists are responsible for observing applicable copyright laws). The winner must perform the composition played at the audition and be available for all rehearsals in preparation for the concert.

 

  • The winner will be announced by December 15, 2024.  The decision of the judges is final.
